Kips Bay Show House Coverage Begins

As mentioned here, SA Baxter was selected by Garcia / Maldonado, Inc. to be part of their design for the Kips Bay Show House.  After a gala opening event this past Monday, the Show House is now open to the public.  We’ll show you a bit more next week, including shots of our installed hardware in the luxurious urban lounge.

Date night in the groovy hookup lounge by Louis Jon Garcia-Maldonado, with its sueded leather walls, mirrored bar shelves, gray moire curtains, mammoth daybed and crackling gel fireplace, is threatened by two female archetypes: a flame-haired warrior, a wall-size female nude painted by Eric Pedersen and a kittenish Kate Moss in a Russell Young photograph, clad in black undies and black thigh-high stockings, clutching a teddy bear.”

The Shimmering Wall of Brass

Erica Tanov’s Marin County showroom features a shimmering brass wall, constructed of 4000 brass discs!

This wall was conceived with San Francisco architect, Douglas Burnham of Envelope A+D.  We love the subtle difference in tone which each disc displays.  We can only imagine the lovely patina that will evolve over time.

What do you think this most resembles – Sequins?  Scales?  We think this represents absolute radiance!  Bravo!

Classic Ben Seibel Brass and Bronze Bookends…Where Mid Century Mod meets Patina

Designed by Ben Seibel (1918-1985), these lovely bookends are available via the 1stdibs Dealer Network.  The heft and patina make such a bold yet warm statement.  Mr. Seibel designed a number of these for Jenfred-Ware in the 1950s and 1960s.  These pieces have aged so gracefully and work so well with today’s  eclectic styles.

Jan Kempenaers Futuristic Architecture Photos

Antwerp based Photographer Jan Kempenaers’ series Spomenik is a mysterious collection of photos of futuristic monuments throughout former Yugoslavia. The massive structures that he has found and documented were all constructed during the communist regime.  Each  structure was made to give the people of Yugoslavia an identity for a productive future, but with national violence the structures have gone into neglect.

Chelsea Market

Chelsea Market's Great Hall

Chelsea Market is a discrete architectural gem that’s tucked away on the corner of 15th Street and 9th Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. An enclosed, urban food court, Chelsea Market is best known as a true shopping experience for those with sophisticated palettes to indulge in gourmet delicacies, delectable pastries, and enough cooking ingredients to make Daniel Boulud or Paul Bocuse feel right at home. Once a factory that made Oreo cookies, Chelsea Market is now alive with the buzz of busy shoppers strolling through the postindustrial corridors that have been meticulously festooned with the architectural details and metalwork of a lost industrial culture not often seen in contemporary spaces.
